The popularity of e-bikes and e-scooters has exploded in recent years and local cities are beginning to put their own rules in place as their use continues to grow. But with all the changes, state officials want to address misconceptions.
The Idaho Transportation Department said local ordinances do not change state law. E-bikes and e-scooters that meet Idaho’s definitions remain untitled under state statute, but riders should expect requirements to vary depending on where they live or ride.
Boise is currently the only Idaho city with an emergency ordinance requiring high-powered e-motorbikes, those over 750 watts or capable of speeds of 28 mph or more, to be licensed, registered and insured within city limits…
