Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) recorded approximately 51,000 arrests in July 2026, marking the agency’s highest monthly total on record and surpassing the prior peak of roughly 43,000 arrests in June.
The figure aligns with broader Department of Homeland Security (DHS) data showing more than one million immigration arrests since President Donald Trump returned to office, alongside more than one million deportations. Roughly one-third of those removals involved recent border crossers handled by Customs and Border Protection. DHS has also cited an estimated 2.2 million self-deportations as part of a larger outflow exceeding three million people leaving the country in response to stepped-up enforcement.
The agency has expanded detention capacity with plans to support up to 92,600 beds by late November 2026 and is operating with increased staffing, funding, and operational tempo. Sources indicate many ICE personnel are working at least six days a week, with a mandate for 70% of staff on duty daily. As of mid-July, ICE held more than 65,000 people in detention.
