Family pushes for change at Firestone intersection after mother seriously injured in crash

DENVER (KDVR) — The family of a woman injured in a crash at a busy Firestone intersection is pushing for safety improvements.

Shelley Ibarra’s daughters say their 57-year-old mother was sitting at the intersection of East Interstate 25 Frontage Road and Firestone Boulevard when she was struck during a chain-reaction collision.

The crash happened May 27. Ibarra remains in the hospital, but is now off life support and breathing on her own.

The family is asking for more cameras at the intersection, as well as patience from drivers in the area, which is east of Interstate 25.
