LONGMONT, Colo. (KDVR) — Safe Shelter of St. Vrain Valley is asking the community for $295,000 to help keep its doors open as the organization faces a sharp increase in demand and declining government funding.
The Longmont nonprofit has provided services to people experiencing domestic violence and other forms of abuse for 48 years. Executive Director Nancy Herbert said the organization has seen an increase in the number of people staying in its residential shelter.
“We were surprised ourselves to learn mid-year that we actually had doubled the amount of clients that we serve in our residential shelter,” Herbert said.
