An invasive species of fish has been found just outside New York City, causing concern for environmental officials.
The northern snakehead fish was found in Lake Ronkonkoma on Long Island, prompting a response from the Department of Environmental Conservation. It’s the first time the dangerous predator has been found in the body of water.
The fish is native to Asia, and it has been known to decimate the population of native fish in the bodies of water it inhabits. DEC officials are working to contain the threat before it spreads to other bodies of water, as the fish has also been known to walk on land and “cross the road”…
