Heavy rain, flooding threat for tri-state area

NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — The cooldown after the heat wave is bringing increased chances for more showers and storms and a growing threat of flooding across the tri‑state region.

Temperatures on Sunday started out in the 70s across the New York City area, a noticeable break from last week’s extreme heat. Highs will reach the low 80s by the afternoon.

Occasional showers and a few thunderstorms are expected Sunday, especially in central and southern New Jersey. Overnight, radar is expected to quickly fill in as widespread rain spreads across Long Island, the Hudson Valley and parts of New Jersey.
