A motorcycle rider from upstate New York was killed in Maspeth on the morning of Saturday, Aug. 8, after he lost control of his bike on the Long Island Expressway, according to authorities.
Police from the 104th Precinct responded to a 911 call for a vehicle collision on the eastbound L.I.E. outer roadway ramp, east of 69th Street where they found the 49-year-old man lying on the roadway with a serious head injury. EMS responded to the location and pronounced him dead at the scene. He was identified by the NYPD on Monday as David Rivera, of Athboy Drive in Marlboro, in Ulster County, a town just south of Poughkeepsie.
Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined that Rivera was riding a Suzuki GSX-R750 motorcycle traveling eastbound on the right shoulder when he struck a metal sewer grate.
