Wakefield: Man Dies after Stabbing on White Plains Rd & East 233rd Street

Police said an as yet unidentified man has died following a fatal stabbing in the Wakefield section of The Bronx. His age and other details are unknown currently, they said.

A police spokesperson said that they received a call at 6.37 a.m. on Friday, May 1, for a report of an assault.

He said upon arrival, the victim was discovered with slash wounds to the neck, head and arm.

“[He was] transported to Jacobi [Hospital], where he was pronounced deceased,” the spokesperson said. “No arrests and the investigation is ongoing.”

When contacted, an FDNY/EMS spokesperson said they received a call at 6.39 a.m. for a report of a male with stab wounds at East 233rd Street and White Plains Road and that one patient was transported to Jacobi Hospital and their condition and description was unknown.

Norwood News spoke to one woman who was working in the area on Friday who said she witnessed the stabbing and alleged the perpetrator was an older man who stabbed a younger man in the neck / back.

“The only thing I saw is when the youth, when the man stabbed the youth in the back, I ran,” she said.

Asked if she could describe the perpetrator, she said he was wearing a mask, a jacket and a hat. “I don’t know him,” she said, adding that he was dressed in black clothing.

The woman said she ran upstairs and called “Help! Help! Help!” She said the perpetrator ran “up the road,” gesturing generally east of White Plains Road at East 233rd Street.

Asked if she knew if the police had caught him, she said, “No, they didn’t catch him,” adding that they had not yet arrived at that point.

Norwood News also spoke to a local business owner and asked if there were usually problems in the area or if it was quiet and he said, “It’s a tough corner. “There’s a lot of activities going on here.”
