Bruce Springsteen turned a bit of regional rivalry into crowd-pleasing banter during his Tuesday night show at UBS Arena in Elmont, cracking that Long Island and New Jersey aren’t all that different. During the set, Springsteen told the audience that Long Island and New Jersey were “the same thing,” saying they were “just separated at birth,” Newsday reported. He delivered the line while performing “Wrecking Ball,” tying the joke to the song’s New Jersey-rooted lyrics.
Springsteen continued the riff by describing locals as “bridge and tunnel people,” before adding another punchline about how shaking up New Jersey would somehow turn it into Long Island.
