NYPD: Hit-and-run triggers road rage, crash into utility pole on Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Authorities allege that a hit-and-run crash triggered a series of road-rage reactions that ended with both drivers in handcuffs after one of the vehicles careened into a utility pole on Hylan Boulevard in New Dorp.

Carl Butler, 51, of Slater Boulevard in Midland Beach, allegedly drove a pickup truck that struck the same SUV two times on Hylan on April 28 around 2 p.m., according to the criminal complaint and police.

Bryan Cruz, 37, of Union Street in Brooklyn, allegedly tossed a bottle of cologne at the pickup truck as Butler fled from the scene of the first crash, according to the criminal complaint and police…
