MTA piloting fare check program on moving buses

NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — The MTA is piloting and expanding its “European-style” bus fare payment check program across the five boroughs, officials said at a board meeting on Thursday.

As part of the pilot, the transit system is deploying more civilian EAGLE teams in small groups to check fare payments and issue electronic tickets to fare evaders, according to New York City Transit President Demetrius Crichlow.

To prevent slowdowns for riders, the EAGLE teams are experimenting with giving summons while buses are in motion as well as taking people off the buses, Crichlow said…
