The City of Buffalo Department of Public Works (BDPW) is asking the public what their thoughts are pertaining to a proposal to re-configure access to the Gates Circle roundabout. Obviously, something needs to be done at this intersection, as there are constantly cars ramming into the circle. Also, there are serious safety concerns for pedestrians and cyclists attempting to navigate the circle, and access the circle.
In recent weeks, preliminary concept plans have been circulating throughout social media channels. In these proposals, Chapin Parkway is disconnected from the circle, which has raised some eyebrows from a lot of people. At the same time, anything this drastic is sure to raise some concerns, warranted or not.
The difference between the two plans is that A) Pedestrian access to center is from mid-block (Chapin Parkway on one side, and Canterbury Woods on the other), and B) Pedestrian access to center is from splitter islands located along Delaware Avenue.
