Downtown Indy nightclub Patron Saint denied new liquor license

INDIANAPOLIS — A popular downtown Indianapolis nightclub did not get approval for a new liquor license, a decision that owners of the oft-criticized bar said they will be appealing.

The Patron Saint, located at 250 S. Meridian Street along a popular strip of downtown bars, had its liquor license request denied on Monday by the Marion County Alcoholic Beverage Board. The nightclub has faced criticism from Indianapolis police after several recent incidents.

The board voted 2-1 in favor of not renewing the Patron Saint’s license, with members citing public nuisance and criminal acts as reasons for the denial. This came after an IMPD detective spoke during the monthly board meeting about two recent issues involving police:

  • A double shooting around 3 a.m. on Sept. 5, 2025, involving a Patron Saint security guard
  • A fight on Sept. 10, 2025, involving an underage, 20-year-old woman inside the nightclub

The recommendation to not renew the liquor license now goes to the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission for final approval. The decision applies to both the Patron Saint and the Saint Shack, its sibling business…
