(WXIN/WTTV) — Official disciplinary charges have been filed against a Lawrence County judge accused of smoking marijuana and not being forthcoming about his drug use.
John M. Plummer III, a judge in Lawrence County Superior Court 1, has been formally charged with two counts of misconduct. The Indiana Commission on Judicial Qualifications announced the charges on Friday morning.
In both counts, the commission alleges that Plummer violated the Code of Judicial Conduct by failing to comply with drug laws. The filing accuses the judge of possessing and consuming marijuana and then “failing to provide complete and candid information” about it.
The commission details how, between February and May 2025, various court staff, attorneys, county officials and fellow judges noticed “significant changes” in Plummer’s judgment, appearance and behaviour. The judge has reportedly been on paid leave since September 2025…
