SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – Multiple groups are advocating for change in how jailhouse informants are used in Indiana courtrooms, saying there needs to be guidelines on the practice.
The WNDU 16 News Now I-Team broke down this practice last month in our first “Trial by Snitch” report. That report examined several murder cases in St. Joseph County in which an inmate who served as a witness confessed to lying in years later.
State Sen. Rodney Pol, D-Chesterton and Jimmy Gurulé, the founder of the Notre Dame Exoneration Clinic, both hope Indiana will join the list of other states which have passed legislation dealing with the use of jailhouse informants…
