Responding to mounting community complaints about crime and homeless encampments, the Durham Police Department launched a targeted initiative Tuesday afternoon.
In a statement and video posted to social media, new Police Chief Stephanie Mardis announced the start of Operation Safe Passage, focused on the Fayetteville Street and Pilot Street corridors, as well as the areas around the American Tobacco Trail in Durham.
