Longtime Cedar Rapids Fire Chief to retire
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Cedar Rapids Fire Chief Greg Smith is retiring after 32 years. His last day will be June 30, city officials shared. Smith was appointed Fire Chief in 2019. He previously served as Battalion Chief (2009-2011), Fire Captain (1999-2009), and Firefighter (1994-1999), according to the city’s website.
FilmScene launches Latin American film festival in Iowa City

Coralville woman pleads guilty to bankruptcy fraud in $70K nursing home scheme
CORALVILLE, Iowa (KCRG) - A Coralville woman pleaded guilty to bankruptcy fraud after hiding more than $70,000 in assets belonging to a cognitively impaired nursing home resident to avoid paying the resident’s nursing home debt. 64-year-old Donita Eckrich pleaded guilty to one count of bankruptcy fraud on April 22.
