As Iowa City’s fare-free bus program enters its fourth year, city officials are laying the groundwork for a new transit facility.
The city plans to relocate its transit system from the aging facility on South Riverside Drive to the public works campus at the intersection of Gilbert Street and McCollister Boulevard. A steady increase in ridership since the fare-free program began in 2023 has encouraged the city to grow its bus fleet.
