UPDATE 9:15 am: The National Weather Service Office in Springfield has upgraded the Missouri Lakes Region, including the Branson area, to an Extreme Heat Warning until 7:00 pm this evening. The warning statement indicates Heat Index Readings at 110 or greater are possible as air temperatures will be above 100.

A dangerous heat index will occur over the southern Ozarks today, but a cold front will bring drier air in beginning this afternoon.
