WxIQ: Iowa sees more than double June rainfall as repeated storm rounds soak region

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Iowa’s News Now) — Parts of the state have been drenched this month, with some areas seeing more than double their normal rainfall for June.

Iowa City recorded close to 10 inches of rain, and Dubuque saw just shy of nine inches. Those totals are more than double what is typically expected for June and just a few inches shy of what is expected for an entire summer.

Two key factors have helped fuel the repeated rounds of rain. One is the jet stream, a narrow band of fast winds that separates warmer and cooler air.
