Marion man found not guilty due to insanity for killing his son is due in court Wednesday

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — A Marion man found not guilty earlier this year of killing his son due to an insanity plea is expected to be back in court Wednesday.

Matthew Schleier had been charged with murder in the death of his 5-year-old son Jack. Prosecutors said Schleier strangled him to death in October 2024. They say he was stressing over his son’s severe food allergies and had been considering killing his children in the weeks leading up to the incident.
