CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — After a week of rain, Sunday’s dry weather gave residents a chance to mow their lawns. But city officials are reminding residents to keep grass clippings out of the streets.
Grass clippings left in roadways can create slippery conditions for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists. They also can wash into storm drains and local waterways, where they release nitrogen and phosphorus that can harm aquatic life, contribute to excessive algae growth and reduce oxygen levels in the water.
