Assisted living employee accused of forging $25K in checks from dying woman

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – A woman is accused of stealing more than $25,800 from an eastern Iowa hospice care resident. Her initial appearance was Wednesday morning.

Cedar Rapids investigators say Candice Clayborn, of Cedar Rapids, forged multiple checks from the resident’s bank account while working as an assisted living facility employee at Evergreen Estates.

The checks were dated between December 26, 2025, and January 8, and were cashed through February 19, according to a criminal complaint…
