A New French Bakery & Cafe Will Open in Cedar Rapids in May

A Cedar Rapids bakery & cafe is set to make a comeback under a new name this spring! According to the Cedar Rapids Gazette, Café Déjà Vu is coming soon to the Town & Country Shopping Center!

About Café Déjà Vu

Café Déjà Vu may be a brand new French bakery & cafe, but it’s owned by two Iowans who are already very familiar with running a business in Cedar Rapids! A post from the cafe’s official Facebook page reads:

“We are the former owners of Croissant Du Jour (Ian and Isabelle Cummings). We’ll be opening Café Déjà Vu soon with our daughter Alyson. We’re going to have a very similar menu to what we had before with some changes.”

According to the article from the Gazette, Croissant Du Jour was a French bakery located at 3531 Mount Vernon Rd that the couple opened in 2004. It closed back in 2016 and transitioned into a French bistro called L’Auberge, which also ended up shutting down.

Ian and Isabelle Cummings and their daughter Alyson plan to open the new Café Déjà Vu at 3655A 1st Ave SE, the former home of Hobby Town, sometime in mid-May. And, based on the Facebook comments, Cedar Rapidians seem to be very excited for their comeback! A comment from Sheila Luensman reads, I hope you will have your quiche. The best ever!” Another comment from Kathleen Keegan Ziegler says,Please say the almond croissants will make a showing on the menu. The best I’ve ever had. I still dream of them!”
