Cedar Rapids considering free bus rides, conducting study

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Cedar Rapids Transit is conducting a study to determine if the city can transition to fare-free buses.

According to Marion City Council documents, the transit department is looking to “improve accessibility” and decide what comes next – as existing fareboxes have reached the end of their useful life and would cost $1.3 million to replace.

Cedar Rapids Transit is planning to develop findings in June, share results with partners such as the City of Marion in July and determine next steps in August…
