Berkeley County Planning Commission approves rezoning for Lake Village project

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — A proposed 2,000-acre development near Cane Bay that could bring 5,500 homes, restaurants, retail and a new public school moved a step closer to reality tonight after the Berkeley County Planning Commission voted to approve a rezoning request for the project often referred to as Lake Village.

The vote followed a crowded meeting in which more than 20 people spoke to the commission both for and against the rezoning request.

Some residents, including people from the Cane Bay development and subdivisions off Highway 17-A, raised concerns about increased traffic congestion, the timeline for infrastructure improvements and potential environmental impacts…
