BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — A man who was shot twice during an attempted robbery may not face charges after investigators determined he acted in self-defense when he killed his alleged attacker, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded after a passing motorist found an injured man near the roadway suffering from gunshot wounds. Investigators later learned the victim had traveled from Georgetown County to meet his cousin, 34-year-old Olivia Catherine Nance, at a residence near Spring Grove Road.
Nance and her boyfriend, Harry Phillips, got into the victim’s vehicle before the group drove together to Old Wing Road in the St. Stephens area, detectives say, where Phillips then pulled out a handgun and attempted to rob the victim of his vehicle.
