Man allegedly held 2 hostage before Ladson standoff with deputies: report

LADSON, S.C. (WCBD) – A 36-year-old man is facing kidnapping and domestic violence charges following an hours-long standoff in a Ladson neighborhood.

Officials with the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) said dispatchers were notified that a complainant was texting with a friend who said she and another person were being held hostage in their Grand Oaks Drive apartment.

The caller told dispatchers that the suspect, Gregory Lee Patrick, had a gun and would not allow them to leave. They also learned that children would be arriving at the home in a short time.

Deputies arrived on the scene and began securing the area. At one point, Patrick exited the home and went to a vehicle, but he observed law enforcement and went back inside.

It was then the two alleged hostages were able to slip away and deputies moved them to a safe location.

“A very short time later communication was established with Patrick. Negotiators talked with Patrick over three hours before he agreed to exit the residence. He did so peacefully and was immediately taken into custody by SWAT members outside the residence,” said Lt. Rick Carson in an update Wednesday afternoon.
