The Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization voted Wednesday night to yank its backing for express lanes on Interstate 77. This ends a project that was decades in the making. It sends $700 million to other parts of North Carolina. The corridor will stay unchanged for at least another decade.
A supermajority of CRTPO members voted to withdraw their backing for the proposal. The plan would’ve added toll lanes from Uptown to South Carolina, but NCDOT said it will honor what the board decided.
