A state prison located in Taylorsville, about an hour northwest of Charlotte, is on lockdown after inmates refused to cooperate with detention officers, according to authorities.
The incident occurred at Alexander Correctional Institution on Wednesday when 60 people being held there did not return to their cells from the recreation yard, even after efforts from the prison’s emergency response team, Observer news partner WSOC reported. It took three hours and additional detention officers for the inmates to return.
