North Carolina officials voted to end job creation tax incentives for a Charlotte manufacturer after the company failed to meet state hiring requirements and announced plans to close its site.
The N.C. Economic Investment Committee voted to terminate the Job Development Investment Grant for vacuum cleaner and floor care maker Royal Appliance Mfg. Co. which does business as TTI Floor Care North America. The company, known for brands like Dirt Devil, Hoover and Oreck, will no longer maintain operations in Charlotte as of Dec. 31, according to state officials.
Over 10 years ago, the company pledged to invest $5 million and create 200 jobs in Charlotte, but now the majority of those jobs are gone. Of 172 jobs in Charlotte, only about 30 remain, according to officials and state records…
