Mount Holly weighs future after mayor pauses downtown development plan

MOUNT HOLLY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A proposed redevelopment project in downtown Mount Holly — tied to the same development team behind luxury apartments at The Bowl at Ballantyne — has been put on hold after a tie‑breaking vote by the city’s mayor.

The plan, known as the Veterans Park Downtown Redevelopment Project, would reshape roughly 6.5 acres in the heart of downtown, adding a park, amphitheater, and up to 120 townhomes. City leaders say the goal has long been to turn Mount Holly into a destination while preserving its small‑town appeal.
