Midnight gunfire ripped through a west Charlotte check-cashing storefront earlier today, sending one person to the hospital with serious injuries and flooding the area with flashing blue lights.
The shooting unfolded just after midnight at the PLS Check Cashers at South Tryon Street and West Boulevard, according to WSOC. Video from the scene shows the business roped off in crime-scene tape as multiple officers work the parking lot. MEDIC said the victim was rushed from the store to the hospital with serious injuries. Neighbors reported a heavy police presence at the busy intersection in the overnight hours as the investigation ramped up.
Where it happened
The intersection sits along a stretch of West Boulevard that city leaders have already flagged for safety and traffic upgrades. The Charlotte Observer recently reported that council members advanced a red-light camera pilot aimed at intersections that include parts of South Tryon and West Boulevard as part of the city’s Vision Zero efforts to curb serious crashes.
The shooting also adds to a troubling pattern of overnight violence in the area. Other late-night shootings in West Charlotte have previously been reported, underscoring long-running community concerns about what happens along these corridors after dark.
