ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – L. Flick Hatcher, a Roanoke native, independent author and practicing psychotherapist, has written a new novel called “Romancing Normal.”
Hatcher describes the book as fiction inspired by the arc of their own life experiences, from childhood in Roanoke to university in Charlottesville and work across the country.
About the book
“Romancing Normal” is about a fictitious character named Drew Carter who spends the first third of his life denying he is gay, according to Hatcher. Drew works to date away being gay and find “Ms. Right” to fulfill a plan that includes a job, wife, 2.5 kids, a white picket fence, a golden Lab and a pony.
As Drew’s life experience shows him the plan is not possible, he experiences what Hatcher describes as the first of three phases of becoming his authentic self: Discovery, in which he acknowledges he is gay…
