New law ensures continuity for prescription approvals

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Governor Abigail Spanberger signed a bill into law that sets new rules for prior authorizations for prescription drugs.

“You can imagine the power of that, the need for that continuity, because continuity of prescription medication is directly tied to sort of better health and patient and treatment outcomes,” said Delegate Michelle Maldonado, D-VA 20th District.

House Bill 736 limits insurance carriers from revoking, limiting, conditioning, modifying, or restricting approvals that have been issued for prescription drugs within six months for initial authorization and 12 months for renewals…
