Harrisonburg man arrested after crashing stolen car on JMU’s campus

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) – A stolen vehicle was recovered and returned to its owner after a crash on the campus of James Madison University, resulting in an arrest.

Officers with the Harrisonburg Police Department responded to an alert from a Flock Automated License Plate Reader just before noon that a stolen vehicle was traveling through the area, according to an HPD release. Officers responded to the area to search for the vehicle, which had been stolen from The Mill apartment complex over the weekend.

Officers found the stolen vehicle, a black Acura, traveling north on South Main Street, with the driver disregarding multiple traffic laws, HPD said. Officers tried to stop the vehicle, but it continued north and eluded officers before turning onto Warsaw Avenue, where the vehicle hit a curb and tree ad crashed behind the Warsaw Avenue Parking Deck at JMU…
