Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority reaches record-low phosphorus levels

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – The Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority is hitting some of the best nutrient-removal numbers it has seen in years, keeping harmful pollution out of waterways.

Most people never see what happens after they flush a toilet or turn on a sink. Inside the facility, teams are working around the clock to keep waterways clean.

“This is the lowest we’ve ever discharged in terms of phosphorus in the last eight years. So it’s something we’re really proud of,” said Brian Haney, wastewater manager at the Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority…
