Two U.S. Navy pilots escaped without injury after their training jet crashed onto private property in Mississippi on Tuesday, May 26. This marks the second military aircraft crash in the state within a few weeks.
The incident occurred in Noxubee County when a T-45C Goshawk, part of Training Air Wing One at Naval Air Station Meridian, went down in a densely wooded area near Shuqualak, close to the border between Noxubee and Kemper counties. Both pilots successfully ejected before the crash and were taken to a local medical facility for evaluation. They are reported to be in stable condition.
Military first responders and local emergency teams quickly secured the crash site and launched an investigation into the cause of the mishap. Authorities have urged the public to stay clear of the area to allow emergency personnel to work safely and preserve the scene for investigators.
This crash follows a similar incident just two weeks earlier on May 12, when an Air Force T-38 Talon II from nearby Columbus Air Force Base crashed in western Alabama. In that case, both pilots also ejected safely. The series of recent aviation accidents has led the Air Force to suspend the use of its entire T-38 Talon fleet pending further investigation.
The T-45C Goshawk is a vital tandem-seat jet used by the Navy and Marine Corps for advanced pilot training. The military has not released the names of the pilots involved in either crash, adhering to standard protocol to protect their privacy while investigations and medical assessments continue. These incidents highlight the ongoing risks faced by student pilots and instructors during training missions.
