$45 million Hixson project aims to improve Hamill Road, reduce sewer overflows

HIXSON, Tenn. — The next time heavy rain pounds Hixson, Chattanooga leaders hope one major problem becomes a lot less common.

On Thursday, city officials celebrated the completion of a new $45 million wastewater project that was built to lower the risk of sewer overflows on Hamill Road during storms.

The project centers on a new equalization basin and pump station near Kanasita Drive and Adams Road.

The facility can hold up to 5 million gallons of excess wastewater during heavy rain events…
