MT. JULIET, Tenn. (WZTV) — A traffic stop for a window tint violation in Mt. Juliet led to the recovery of stolen merchandise, the discovery of outstanding felony shoplifting warrants, and the arrest of two Chattanooga residents, according to police.
The Mt. Juliet Police Department said officers stopped a vehicle after noticing a window tint violation. During the stop, officers uncovered an unreported shoplifting incident involving merchandise from an Old Navy store.
Police said further investigation led to the recovery of more than $1,000 worth of merchandise that had been stolen from a Bath & Body Works store in Athens, Tennessee. The merchandise included various 3-wick candles and other air fresheners.
Authorities said the vehicle’s passenger, a 41-year-old Chattanooga woman, was found in possession of a magnet commonly used to defeat retail theft deterrent devices. Investigators also discovered she had active warrants from Sevier County for felony shoplifting and from Knox County for violating probation related to a previous felony shoplifting conviction.
