VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A 19-year-old man was arrested in connection with having an open container of alcohol and a loaded handgun on Atlantic Avenue, according to the Virginia Beach Police Department.
On July 11, officers were patrolling the 1700 block of Atlantic Avenue around 12:30 a.m. when they observed a man with an open container of alcohol. Police said officers approached him, but he refused to stop or provide identification and tried to walk away instead.
Police said the suspect, identified as 19-year-old Jaylin Scott-McCoy, resisted efforts to be taken into custody when advised he was under arrest. He was eventually handcuffed after he was maced by the officers.
During a search of a bag he was carrying when stopped, a loaded 9mm handgun was recovered.
