VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — James King had been convicted of sexually assaulting and killing Lexie Walters in Virginia Beach in 2020, and, now 73 years old, he is eligible for geriatric release in Virginia.

Walters’ sister, Marie Jones, had to go to his first parole hearing about a year ago to advocate for keeping King behind bars. The process reopened the wounds of trauma when she lost her sister, and those wounds have been reopened yet again., as King is up for an appeal hearing next month.

Jones recently finished talking to the parole board earlier this summer. It may take between two and four months for the court to decide on his appeal.
“So we’re left in limbo,, with that scar wide open, waiting, and waiting and waiting,” Jones said.
Last time King was up for an appeal, they decided to keep him in jail. This time, King’s counsel is arguing that his past conviction for attacking and killing a woman in Ohio should not have been brought up in court. It is referring to a similar murder King was convicted of in 1986 — for which he served 20 years…
