NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The first details released surrounding a shooting Wednesday night in the Berkley section of Norfolk that killed 21-year-old Romeo Bates Johnson don’t begin to illustrate the wave of pain being experienced by the victim’s loved ones and the entire Berkley community.
Bates Johnson was taken to Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, where he died from his injuries.
The scene of the crime is the 100 block of W. Liberty St., near St. Helena Elementary School, and the shooting death has some parents of school-age children on edge. Thursday morning, security officers searched the school grounds following the incident.
