Celebrating 125 years: A look at two of the zoo’s newest endangered animals

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – As the Virginia Zoo prepares to mark 125 years in operation, the facility has partnered with 10 On Your Side to share behind-the-scenes views of its animals leading up to a public celebration Saturday.

The upcoming event will feature zookeeper chats and animal enrichment activities.

Roaring at 125: Virginia Zoo celebrating anniversary in a big way

The Virginia Zoo is home to more than 700 animals. Among its newest residents are Sassy and Pollock, a pair of African painted dogs, an endangered species. The two dogs arrived a few months ago, according to zoo staff.

In preparation for Saturday’s event, staff provided meatballs to hide throughout their outdoor habitat. 10 On Your Side’s Angela Bohon was able to tag along for the enrichment activity…
