NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Norfolk Mayor Kenny Alexander opened his State of the City address Wednesday with a video message to kick things off: “Our best days are ahead. … Let’s Go Norfolk!”
Then, in a presentation to Norfolk residents, local government and business leaders from throughout Hampton Roads, he highlighted many of the cities’ accomplishments over the past year including job growth, new businesses opening and a decrease in crime.
“A 30% decrease in homicides, the lowest number in 40 years,” Alexander said. “Non-fatal shootings decreased by 24%. Overall, violent crime dropped by 11%. Property crime fell by 17%, and motor vehicle theft is down by an extraordinary 41%.”…
