NORFOLK, Va (WAVY) — A 67-year-old Navy veteran convicted in two Norfolk cases tied to addiction and homelessness will avoid jail time after being accepted into the Veterans Track of the Norfolk Recovery Court.
Court records shows the veteran, whose name is being withheld for privacy reasons, was arrested in June 2025 after Norfolk police stopped him while driving a stolen Hyundai Sonata down Chesapeake Boulevard.
Investigators reported the car had been reported stolen two years earlier, and the veteran admitted to taking it after believing it had been abandoned. Police say he used a screwdriver to operate the vehicle and had been living out of the car while delivering food for money…
