BERWYN, Ill. (WCIA) — No charges will be filed against the Berwyn Police officers involved in the shooting that ended in the death of the Mahomet triple-homicide suspect, John Lyons.
According to newly released documents, the singular bullet that killed Lyons was self-inflicted and did not come from any of the involved officers’ guns.
In October of 2025, WCIA submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to obtain police reports from Berwyn, Mahomet and Illinois State Police. In early August of 2026, we received more than 800 pages back — including the autopsy report, Lyons’ manifesto and limited details about the connection to Nick Fuentes, a right-wing influencer.
Autopsy findings mean no criminal charges will be filed
In a letter sent from the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office to ISP’s Public Integrity Task Force on Feb. 23, 2026, the State’s Attorney’s Office said it found “no conduct” that would “give rise to criminal charges against any of the involved officers.”…
