Man charged for murder of Jefferson Park limo company owner

CHICAGO — An 18-year-old has been charged with first degree murder after he allegedly shot and killed a Jefferson Park man in December.

According to the Chicago Police Department, officers responded to shots fired on the 1700 block of North Lotus Street in the city’s Austin neighborhood around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2023.

Upon arrival, officers discovered Mohammed K. Al Hijoj , 39, of Jefferson Park, was fatally shot inside of his black Cadillac. Witnesses told police that they heard the gunfire and then saw four individuals leave the Cadillac and flee the scene.

Al Hijoj sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

A handgun was reportedly recovered a few feet away from the vehicle where Hijoj was shot.

On Sunday, the Chicago Police Department arrested 18-year-old Zayin Kelly. He now faces first degree murder and armed robbery charges.
