Chicago man faces felony charges for armed kidnapping of CTA bus driver

CHICAGO (WGN) — A Chicago man is accused of kidnapping a Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) bus driver at knifepoint early Wednesday morning, before the city worker later escaped through a window.

Lanell Fields, 51, of Chicago faces the following charges:

  • One felony count of aggravated armed kidnapping
  • One felony count of aggravated unlawful restraint
  • One felony count of aggravated assault of a state II employee with a weapon

Charges stem from a May 13 incident in the 2400 block of N. Pulaski. Just after 2:35 a.m. in the 2400 block of North Pulaski, police allege that Fields was traveling on a CTA bus when he approached the driver, a 57-year-old woman, and demanded that the bus not stop.
