The sweetest day of the month has arrived.

National Donut Day, a beloved pseudo-holiday honoring the iconic breakfast pastry, falls annually on the first Friday in June. The Salvation Army established it in 1938 to pay tribute to the organization’s Donut Lassies — women who traveled to France during World War I to serve donuts and other snacks to soldiers, according to USA TODAY.
